Need Help with Your New Year’s Resolutions?

Need Help with Your New Year’s Resolutions? – by Eliut Morales

Many of us welcomed the new year by giving ourselves new goals and achievements to accomplish. For a lot of us, one of those goals is to work out and develop healthier habits. However, for parents, juggling work, children, social life, and exercise can become a big undertaking. According to the Department of Health and Social Services, less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day, and only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week. However, there are ways that can make exercising feel like less of a chore for parents!

DSC_0774Group exercise classes have gained major popularity lately. Many gyms and recreation facilities now offer a wide variety of classes. Zumba in particular has become one of the most popular group work out classes all over. Zumba is an aerobic program involving movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dances and music. The official Zumba website reports that over 15 million people take weekly Zumba classes at over 200,000 locations in 180 countries. Now that’s a lot of dancing! While group exercise classes are a great way to get exercise without sticking to the usual gym routine, many parents simply don’t have the time to try them out. You may find yourself tired after a long day of work, or maybe you can’t find a way to try a class without leaving your children with someone.

At the Manassas Park Community Center, we offer many group exercise classes, including popular options such as Zumba, yoga, kickboxing, and body sculpting! Starting in March, our group exercise class calendar will include NEW classes like Lean Legs, Magic Abs, Om Tone, and more! Our classes are scheduled throughout the week and on weekends to give everyone access to them. We also offer aquatic group exercise classes like Aqua Zumba and Aquasize for a workout that puts less stress on the joints.

In addition to the group classes, we also offer a childcare option for members and drop-in guests! Kids Korner is a program that allows you to leave your children with our trained staff while you enjoy our classes! This is a perfect way for you to enjoy a good workout and make new friends without having to worry about your children being alone.

We’re more than happy to help you achieve your fitness goals this year, and we hope you’ll visit us soon to explore all the new classes we’ll have in spring. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your new favorite class!
