I mentioned to you guys on Facebook that I’ve been taking my daughter to Mathnasium for the past few weeks. We started off with a free consultation/assessment (you can do that, too). We were having a tough time with speed/accuracy and even though she knows her math facts in isolation, she wasn’t really applying them, which was making me frustrated and her sad. It’s been just about a month now, and I won’t lie to you and say they worked magic in the first week, but after about 3 weeks, I noticed we have eliminated tears from math homework. No joke.
One great way to avoid the homework blues is to not let your child forget their math over the summer, and to that end, Mathnasium offers a summer program that’s a set number of sessions, which you can use any time that they’re open. I love the flexibility of that. If there’s a thunderstorm that cancels swim team, you can go to math. If you usually go on Mondays, but Grandma comes into town, you can just go on Tuesday. It’s nice to not be locked into a set day/time over the summer when you want freedom.
