ICE at Gaylord National 2017

As always, Gaylord National has put on an amazing display with their Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ICE! 2017!

If you have never visited ICE! before, the amazing ice sculptures are definitely something to be seen! Artisans carve more than two million pounds of colored ice into the year’s theme, with this year being all about the 1964 claymation classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!

ICE! slide roomAs always, there are ice slides, this year they’re themed like the Island of Misfit Toys.

The final scene is always my favorite- a crystal-clear ice Nativity scene with a giant crystal angel overseeing the whole thing.  It always takes my breath away.

I highly recommend bringing a pair of smart-phone compatible gloves, too.  I always forget to do this and I end up freezing my hand off trying to take pictures! Also, if you have a teenager who thinks that anytime is a good time for flip flops (I do!) this is a good time to remind them about frostbite and make them break out the shoes with laces.

It’s also a great idea to make a day of your adventures at the Gaylord, and National Harbor! The hotel is beautifully decorated for Christmas, with a gingerbread display in the lobby, trees all around, and the atrium decorated especiallAtrium Tree Lighting Showy for the season.  In addition to the amazing light displays each night, JOY – A Holiday Spectacular is a new feature with live music and dancing. Tickets for seating at the show start at $11.99

In the Christmas Village, you can add on several activities including Cookies with Mrs. Claus, photos with Santa, Gingerbread Decorating, carousel rides, Build-A-Bear Workshop, scavenger hunt, and new this year- indoor ice skating!

If you are interested in enjoying the Christmas Village, the resort has created several Play and Save packages starting at $29.45.  There are also packages with room accommodations if you would like to enjoy a mini staycation!

Rudolphs-Holly-Jolly-BreakfastThis year, you can also add on Rudolph’s Holly Jolly™ Breakfast with tableside visits by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster and Clarice. There is a breakfast buffet and live entertainment with singing, dancing, and trivia.  $39.99 for adults ages 12 and older and $26.99 for children ages 4 to 11. Kids 3 and younger are free.  I would recommend this breakfast for the preschool-early elementary set.

Outdoor movies, the Capital Wheel, and live singing (even fireworks!) happen throughout the season on select days and are a great way to round out your trip!
