Guys, we've been friends for awhile, right? And, if any of you were serial killers or something, you'd have figured out my kids' names already, because it really wouldn't be hard.  It's mentally taxing for me to keep referring to them by ages or birth order, so let's just get real about it.

This is Savannah.  She's 5 and she enjoys pink, sparkles, soccer, math, kicking butt and taking names, swimming, and ice skating.  She does not enjoy dresses, tights, mosquitos, or when people do not realize that she is Lord and Master of the Universe.  Especially her brothers- they should know better.

Savannah checked out the Ice Stars Fun Camp last week, and I thought I'd share her feedback with you.  We thought about doing a video, but then I realized that not everyone speaks rapid-fire five year old, so typing her responses would be easier.

So, kiddo, tell me about camp.
Camp?  Camp was good.  I was just awesome and I skated and one day we got to do the slip and slide. Daddy let me buy lunch from the cafe and I got chicken fingers AND tater tots, which is a lot of food, but he let me do it.

What was your favorite part about camp?
Um, we did lots of different stuff. It was all good. I made a t-shirt, do you want to see it? (this is another good reason not to make a video- she just runs off.  For the record, I've seen the tie-dye shirt at least 20 times)

Was there anything you didn't like?
I thought we were going to skate too much, but we didn't, we just did it more times.  And now, I can skate while I jump.

You mean jump while you skate?
No, I mean skate while I jump.  And, I can do a spin on two feet.  And, Mrs. Marina (her coach) says I'm doing a good job.  Also, I liked the teachers.  When I grow up I'm going to be a camp teacher at the ice rink.  How old do you think I have to be to be a camp teacher at the ice rink?

I'd imagine you have to be a teenager.  Would you go back to camp again? Should I tell people their kids would like skating camp?
Oh, sure, I'd go to all the weeks.  They can come, too. We'll have fun.

That's Savannah on the far right- this picture is from the PwIce.com site.
So, there you have it.  Savannah liked camp, and thinks we can all have fun together.  I was a little nervous the first day because it looked like many of the kids were older than her, but she informs me that this made it more fun because she got to hang out with the big kids.  Also, they mix the hockey camp kids and the figure skating kids together during some parts of the day, so there are plenty of people to play with. You can pack your child's lunch, or they can purchase lunch from the rink cafe.  Camp runs from 9am-5pm, but there is a before/after care option if you need a longer day.  For us, since we're not typically a daycare family, Savannah SLEPT after camp each day.  She also had a wicked crush on one of the hockey coaches.  In any event, she had a great time.  The mixed age group was probably my biggest concern, but she seemed to have a great time and came home talking about friends every day, so it worked out fine! Each week there are different off-ice activities, if you need to know about anything (like bringing a swimsuit for the slip-n-slide or a shirt to tie-dye) they'll let you know.  Also, the kids are on the ice several hours a day, but they break it into chunks so they're not bored or over-stressed about skating.  There is some outdoor play time, so we tried to dress in light layers so Savannah would be comfortable on the ice and outside.  It's a challenge, but you can do it :) Also, there's a form to sign if you want to leave sunscreen.

If you'd like more information on hockey or figure skating or learn to skate camps, you can find it here.

Disclosure: Prince William Ice Center is one of our sponsors, but they didn't ask me to write this, nor was I compensated.  We paid for camp just like everyone else, and all opinions are my own. Yours might vary, but I'd be happy to hear them in the comments if you want to share.  We had a great week at camp, but are not responsible for your experiences as we don't control the ice rink.

Camps begin this week (July 10th) and run through August 23rd, and there are both afternoon and morning half day options.  I personally love that The Little Gym has made the effort to offer both "girl", "boy" and gender-neutral themes.  Having both boys and girls in my family, I'm always on the lookout for a camp that will interest all of my kids so that I can spend my free time as actual free time, not running from one camp to another dropping off children with varying interests!

Pediatric Achievements provides Occupational Therapy services for Prince William County.  As any parent knows, the work your child does during the school year can quickly be lost if they don't keep up their skills during the school break.  Pediatric Achievements is offering summer camps aimed at Kindergarten Readiness and Handwriting.  Note that this office does work with children with special needs.  As a momma who's currently teaching handwriting at home to my little ones at varying levels, I can't tell you how valuable a service I think this would be!  Pediatric Achievements is located in the Tackett's Mill Shopping Center.

Here's information from Pediatric Achievements:

Our registration deadline is June 12th and the camps begin the week of June 24th.  They run once a week through the week of August 5th.  We have the following camps:

Woodbridge Office:

Kindergarten Prep (4-5 year olds), Mondays from 9:30 to 10:45 am

Advanced Printing (1st &; 2nd grade), Mondays from 11:00 to 12:15 p.m.

Beginner Cursive, Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Manassas Office:

Advanced Printing (1st & 2nd grade), Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm.

Camp sessions will include games, crafts and handwriting in a small group setting.  Cost is $150 +$10 workbook for 6 sessions (allowing a week for travel/conflicts) or pay $170 (including workbook) for 7 sessions.  Camps utilize Handwriting Without Tears method.

Please call our office at 703/491-1044 or our website at:  www.pediatricachievements.com for more information.

Disclosure: As required by law, we want you to know this is a sponsored post, paid for by Pediatric Achievements.  PwcMoms.com and its owners/operators/writers are not responsible for camp content or staff.  Please be sure to visit the Pediatric Achievements website for additional information and details.

Looking for VBS or camp in Prince William County? Here's what I've got.  They're done by DATE, so that you can decide what weeks you need coverage.  I was going to try to color code them by half day/full day/VBS, but that got complicated and hurt my head, so I gave up, although I did turn the VBS listings blue in case that's all you're here for..  If you would like to submit your camp dates (just like these, please, I'm not taking them incomplete or not done in this format) I'll be happy to add them.

Prince William County Parks and Recreation doesn't think I'm cool enough to submit their events, ever, and since I'm tied up with this whole radiation bit this year, I didn't take the time to separate out their camp listings by week.  You can find their guide online, however, here at Prince William County Parks Summer Camps 2013.

City of Manassas Park Parks and Recreation Summer Camps 2013 are online here.  They don't think I'm cool, either.  It's okay, I'm not bitter about it ;)

Leesylvania State Park's Junior Ranger Program 2013

Permalink to Leesylvania%20State%20Park%27s%20Junior%20Ranger%20Program%202013
Published: 05/01/2013
Leesylvania State Park offers a "Junior Ranger" program each summer.  There are several dates, as well as campouts.  For additional information, call the visitor center at 703-583-6904.
About the Program
The Junior Ranger program at Leesylvania State Park is all about hands-on practical learning opportunities in a well supervised set- ting. It is a great way for you and your child to learn about the rich history and nature that is in your own backyard.
Each day we cover a new topic, and introduce fun educational activi- ties that help keep things fun and interesting. We offer different activities each year so don’t worry about this being your second or third time as a participant.
The program is designed with the outdoors in mind so the majority of the time is spent in our 556 acre park. We have two leaders for each session who work together to create a safe and secure learn- ing environment.
Fee’s - There is a $60.00 enrollment fee per session for each partici- pant. This covers all supplies, graduation certificate, t-shirt, and patch.
Items to bring - Keep in mind that we will be outdoors so please bring the following:
Water (not soda)
Sunscreen
Tennis Shoes/boots (no sandals) Extra socks
Bug spray
Hand Sanitizer
A snack for snack time

Family Night - Parents are always encouraged to take part in our daily activities. There is also a family camp out night several times during the summer for graduates of the program. These are held at the Bushey Point campground, and start at 7:30pm. There are vari- ous activities including night hikes and cooking. Families can leave any time they choose, or camp out overnight and leave the next morning. See the back for dates.

A day at Junior Rangers
Parents can drop off their children up to 15 minutes before the scheduled start of their session. ALL PARTICIPANTS are to be signed in at the beginning of the day, and at the end of the day will need to be signed out by a guardian.
Once the first participants arrive the Junior Ranger leaders will introduce them to one another, and will wait for everyone to arrive at Shelter #2. Then once everyone has arrived and is signed in by their parents the day starts.
Depending on the age group activities will vary. They include, but are not limited to: Nature hikes, river seining, pond play, historical games, and canoeing for the 10-12 year old participants.
If a Junior Ranger has been an active participant each day they will be able to take part in a graduation ceremony. This takes place the last 30 minutes on the final day of each session. Children will talk about what they learned and receive a certificate, t-shirt, and patch.
Questions
Can I sign up over the phone? -No-There are lots of thing to cover with parents before they sign their child up and we need to make sure they understand everything. Payment is due when you sign up at the visitor center (no holding spots). What if it rains? -We take kids inside, or under a covered shelter during a rain, or bad weather event.
Can I sign up for more than one session? - We are happy to have participants sign up again, but we will have to put you on a waiting list to see if others, who have not been through the program, would like to give it a try.
Strict about age groups? - We like to keep our age groups together but we might be able to work with parents. No children under 4 allowed. Sessions are 15 participants max

Hallabolou is a full service Children’s Enrichment and Event Company.  I first met their owner, Vanessa, at the Chick-Fil-A Fire and Rescue Fest.  I instantly decided that I needed to know the woman with the purple apron and approximately 75 pounds of Legos.  Bright, enthusiastic, and passionate about engaging and enriching children's lives, Vanessa instantly won me over on Hallabolou (a secret message saying hello to her children) and her work there.  Read more about them below, and be sure to check them out on Facebook and their Website, too! They offer classes, after school enrichment, camps, and more!

From the owner:
Our enrichment programs and camps are dedicated to creating an atmosphere that fosters each child’s feeling of autonomy and positive self-image.  From a young age, children are fascinated with the world around them.  Hallabolou uses this fascination to teach life skills and assist children in understanding and expressing their emotions through a creative technique known as the Five Points of Discovery. These points are Imagination, Determination, Commitment, Self-Confidence and Cooperation. Through our offerings of bRiK Programs or Learning Levels we teach STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We enrich their experiences by also providing a Dance and Movement program, Educational Cooking for Kids, Theater and Art.

The Junior Ranger Program at Leesylvania State Park runs several weeks this summer for various ages.  Parents may use the program as a drop-off camp or may remain with their child, if they're more comfortable.  Children as young as 4 and as old as 12 may participate in various weeks.  Please see the flier for additional information.  This fantastic park is located here on the Woodbridge/Dumfries side of Prince William County and offers several programs for families and children throughout the year.

Prince William Forest Park

Prince William Forest Park is a fantastic location for camping, hiking, and even meeting friends at the playground!  There are several entrances to the Park, including a few from route 234 in Dumfries and off route 619 past Independent Hill going to Triangle. The main entrance to the park, which I recommend you use, is the one you reach by taking exit 150B off I-95.  When you enter the park, there is a ranger station, but it may or may not be manned.  If there's no ranger, head straight down the road and you'll arrive at an information area where you can pay your $5.  Admission is good for seven consecutive days, so it's a pretty awesome deal, when you think about it that way!

Visitors Center and Welcome Station
Looping back towards the entrance, on the right hand side there is parking and a large playground with an open field.  The play area is partially shaded, but the field gets some fairly direct sunlight.  With all the trees around, you'll definitely want to do a tick check when you get home.
Playground area with slides, climbing wall, playhouse and more

Across the street from the playground, there is a hike entrance.  I want to say the blazes are green, but I am not positive, so please don't quote me on that.  The hike is paved with shredded plastic (similar or the same to a rubber track type of feel).  It would be very stroller friendly, if you're looking to hike with a baby!
The hike winds you past a creek, and there are lots of signs explaining the flora and fauna, which is helpful since my kids always want to know what each individual leaf is and Google is so sick of me asking about "4 tipped leaves on flat bark trees in Virginia" that they're considering cutting me off.  I don't have to search in an encyclopedia, but I can't stay here...you know how it goes ;)
Here's another view of the playground.  The kids had a great time running around, and as a bonus, there's a BATHROOM!! Flushing toilets, running water, the whole deal.  I consider proximity of the potty to be a huge deal, so chalk that up as a win!

Prince William Forest Park has a scenic drive, as well, and it's quite pleasant.  I would have especially loved it when my first was a baby.  He had horrendous colic and the only way he slept was in motion.  A nice drive through the park would have been a great way to spend the time driving the baby!

Finally, there's camping.  We were fortunate to spend part of a night with our boy scout troop, and had a great time! There are, again, restrooms, as well as nice sites with decent parking.  We were near an outdoor area with lots of bench seating where we enjoyed a bonfire, too.  We stayed in the tent camping, but they also offer 5 cabins.  For details on camping at Prince William Forest Park, just click here.

Breakdown-

Prince William Forest Park
Pros- nice playground, bathrooms located nearby, camping and parking
Cons- small fee, multiple entrances can be confusing to first timers (like me my first time!)
Cautions- only that you should be sure to check for ticks, but that's any outdoor location in Virginia!

Last year I spent a ton of time making the Park Authority Camps easier to search and sort through.  This year, they've done a way better job than I ever could- check out their website where you can search, compare, etc, or pick up a "Summer Camp Guide" which is listed by location by date this year, rather than by topic like last year!! Great job Park Authority!!

Urban Evolution will be hosting camps from June 11th-September 7th.  They describe them: "So your 9-year-old likes to turn your living room into the set of Wild and Crazy Kids and observing them in the backyard is like watching a scene from Legends of the Hidden Temple? THIS is the camp for your child! The day camps serve as a safe and exciting introduction to Parkour and Freerunning.  Don's know what Parkour is, pizza brain? It's getting over, around, and through obstacles to enhance physical fitness and mental preparedness.  Your kids will also be exposed to movement-based sports like gymnastics, tricking, breakdancing, and Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts).  Think Guts on steroids.  And, at 75% off, this challenge is better than entering the Temple of Doom.

YOUTH SPORTS, Virginia Training Center ’s Summer Camp Program gives kids of all gymnastics backgrounds and ages a chance to develop new skills, make new friends and above all have loads of fun!  Gymnastics Camp is open to kids ages 5 - 15.  The kids will participate in gymnastics, jump rope, arts and crafts, swimming, putt-putt golf, movies and more. A weekly schedule will be handed out on the first day of each week of camp.  Gymnastics camp is offered weekly.  Some weeks feature a second, specialty camp, too.   half day ($140) or full day ($190)

Edgemoor Art Studio offers 8 weeks of "Art Rocks" Art camp for all ages.  Days are divided with younger children in the morning and older kids in the afternoon.  All supplies and snacks are included.

The Little Gym of Gainesville offers a full summer of programming with a different theme each week.  Classes are for ages 3-8 years old, and are priced by the day, rather than by the week, making it a good flexible option for part-time parents.

The State Park Program offers a teen training program that actually includes a $500 stipend!  Have older kids? Check it out on their website.

George Mason University's "Potomac Arts Academy" offers several options throughout the summer for ages through high school.

Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center is having three equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) camps that focus on a broad range and combination of challenges facing pre-teens and teens. All activities are based in groundwork distinguishing these classes from our traditional therapeutic riding classes. EAP includes a vast array of treatment strategies utilizing the horse. Considerable success has been observed in the mental health realm with horse activities on the ground.Groundwork classes develop cognitive skills, sensory skills, and confidence. Cognitive sessions address the many processes of the mind, including planning, judgment, memory, orientation, concepts, attention and language.Sensory processing sessions provide activities working with the horse to improve the brain’s ability to take in, analyze and respond to information from the body’s five senses. The primary goals of these sessions are increased body awareness, sequencing and judgment skills, attention span, cause and effect, motor coordination, spatial awareness, and early learning skills.
In addition, clients improve judgment skills, social interaction, coordination, motor planning, self confidence and self-esteem, and a greater sense of independence.

School breaks can be stressful! Parents that work need coverage, holidays need preparing for, families come to visit....stress!!

Now, I'm not saying I know from experience (but I'm not saying I don't know either), but having to leave twice a day to pick up your child from a camp (even if it's half day) can provide a much needed break from the house and anyone in it that's not normally there!  Further, I promise that I won't tell anyone in your house who's not normally there that you CAN, in fact, drop your child off at art camp and come back if you'd like to tell them you have to stay.

This is not a place of judgement.

In any event, whether you need extended coverage or are just looking to indulge one of your child's passions, I hope that this list will help! If you know of a camp option that we've missed, shoot me an email or leave a comment and we'll be sure to get it added ASAP!

Edgemoor Art Studio

Published: 05/25/2011
On Tuesday, my 7 year old and I got the chance to go check out Edgemoor Art Studio in Lake Ridge.
This bright, child-friendly studio is owned by the very sweet Ruth, who gets bonus points for sharing my philosophy that children are capable of way more than we give them credit for.  Ruth's students start as young as preschool, and she teaches both Art and Literacy.  Students use artist-quality materials during classes including oil pastels, paints, charcoal, found materials, sculpting, and more.
Students learn actual art principles, including motion, shading, sketching, painting technique, great artists, and design and implementation of projects.  Ruth shared with us during our visit that she frequently gives "homework"to the kids to do something like design a dog-wash that does it all for you, and then when the kids come back, they'll put their ideas together and build one.  Other projects around the room included still-life, group sculpture, and a sign for a Chocolate Sculpture Class, which she offers with Wine for grown ups ;) or with just chocolate for children.  I think that would be such a fun mom's night out!!
Do you see these dresses? They're made of paper.  Edgemoor offers custom birthday parties (whoo! another non-mouse with pizza option!!) and these are for a little girl who wants to be a fashion designer.  Her party is going to be making their own fashion out of paper and then they'll have a red carpet walk at the end of the party.  How freaking cool is that?
This sculpture project made of recycled materials and bamboo was made by a 3 year old class.  I love that they include collaboration as part of the class with the younger and older children because for some of us (me) that is a skill that needs continuous development (even at my age).

Edgemoor Classes come in both parent and me and drop-off varieties, and there is an afternoon homeschool class, as well.  8 week sessions run $140 (materials included) for preschool classes, which are an hour long or $160-$220 for older children (again, materials included) which run for 2 hours.

There are also Art Camps offered, which are really on-par price wise with many of the park authority camps.  $175 a week, all materials included for ages 4-6 (9am-12pm) or ages 7-14 (1pm-4pm).  Phonics class info is available via email.

We were very impressed with Edgemoor and my 7 year old has not stopped talking about how he can't wait to go back!! There's an open house on July 10th, in the evening (there you go working parents!!) and I'd encourage you to go meet the very dynamic instructor.  We were definitely impressed and if you're looking for a great art experience for your child, this is definitely the place in Woodbridge to go!!

I really hope this breakdown helps you guys find camp options that work.  A few helpful hints for multiple aged kids:
**Go with SBDCRC if you have multiple ages.  They seem to have the widest age range.**
1) Look for funky times- i.e. Swan Lake Ballet Camp the week of August 1st at BLCC is from 9:30-1.  I’m not saying you want to drive between 2 community centers, but if you choose correctly, you can have one kid in camp from 9-12 and one from 9:30-1 and do drop off and pick up yourself.
2) If you have Boys and Girls that both want gender-stereotype activities (don’t get mad at me- it happens!!) Again, using an example from BLCC, the week of the 11th you can hit Jazz Camp and CSI Camp (ages 12+ and 8-12 respectively).  Younger kids? Try SBDCRC’s Princess Camp for your girlie girl, and then hit several of the one-day art and science camps.  It won’t net you an errand day every day for a week, but you can get in 2 or 3 of them!
3) Less picky mixed gender and age kids? Try for the cooking classes or art classes.  Several have a decent span of ages and are easily mixed gender.
4) Serious age mix? Tell me about it.  With a 3, 5, and 7 year old finding options that fit our family is HARD.  You can find options, but they’re not great.  My recommendation? Find a camp 2 of your kids can go to.  Find another camp the same week.  Remember that great friend you met this year with kids the same ages as yours? Divide and conquer, ladies.  Divide and conquer.  One of you drop off the littles and one of you drop off the bigs.  Repeat at pickup.  Have lunch together at the park.  It’ll be fantastic. :)
Just so you all know, this thing was ridiculous.  I’m going to try to get in touch with the park authority to suggest a few things for next year to make camp searching a little bit easier on you (and me, because this may have been the biggest time vacuum ever completed for PWC Moms!!).  In the meantime, I hope this helps.

Boys and Girls Club

Several of you have asked about affordable options for your kids, and let me just say that I don't think it gets any better than Boys and Girls Club for affordable, quality options.

Now, if you're anything like me, you're thinking that the Boys and Girls Club is designed for lower-income, inner-city kids.  (Or maybe I'm just a bad person....but either way)  It's definitely not.  While the Boys and Girls Club does serve a high number of the at-risk population, they're open to everyone.

I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with 2 of the directors for our area at the Hylton Club located on Dale Boulevard near what was the ice arena.  First of all, as a former children's pastor, I know passion for kids, and these two ladies are seriously dedicated to making sure that each child that walks in the doors is having a safe, quality experience.  Second, I was completely impressed by the facility! State of the art computers, X-Box Kinects, well maintained classrooms, a library complete with summer reading titles from local schools, an on-site accredited teacher to help with homework, tabletop games, an outdoor jungle gym, they've really got it all.

The Boys and Girls Club does have a focus on achievement.  They have a few key areas they focus on including Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.  Clubs offer tutoring, volunteer clubs run by the kids, pickup games and even sports leagues for a small additional fee.

So here is the breakdown.  Membership is $30 a year.  No joke.  And your membership is good at the Hylton, Manassas, and Dumfries clubs.  That means your child can go to the club Tuesday-Friday from 3-9pm and Saturday from 10-4.  Kindergarten through Teens can belong, and there's separate age-appropriate programming for everyone.  Classrooms have glass windows everywhere so there's total accountability and transparency.

In addition, the clubs offer very affordable before and after care from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday.  Children can opt to stay until 9 Tuesday through Friday, if they need/desire.

Boys and Girls Clubs also offer Summer Camp and Spring Break Camps.  Summer camp includes:
1 Weekly Field Trip
1 Weekly Swimming Trip
1 Field Day
2 days in the club rotation
They're closed 4th of July, but other than that, there's total summer coverage.

I was completely impressed by the Boys and Girls Club, and I'd encourage you to check it out as an option for your child!! At $30 a year, even if you just use it as a rainy Saturday backup activity, it's totally worth the cost.  They're doing great work with our kids and youth right here in PWC.

If Boys and Girls Club doesn't sound like something your family is interested in, but you'd like to support the work they do with at-risk children, including never turning a child away because of an inability to pay, you can support them by attending a Friday night Bingo game (ages 10+) or by attending their Steak n' Steak Dinner and Silent Auction  held annually in May

Oh other end of the county people.

I really do love you guys.  One of my dearest friends in the whole world is, in fact, moving to Bristow in the near future.  I may never forgive her for moving to the dark side of the universe visit her often just on the other side of PWC! Then I'll know more for you all to do!!

(By the way, you can email me anytime and I'm happy to add events!! Please share with the class!)

Someone asked for camp options in your neck of the woods.  Here are a few.

4-H PWC offers a camp the 3rd week of July in Front Royal.

Lake Manassas Academy has several camp options and you register by week.  It's $199 but is full time and includes field trips.

The Little Gym of Gainesville offers camp options from 1 day to week long options varying in theme from Tumbling to Cheerleading.

Tiny Dancers in Gainesville hosts weeklong camps but I'm going to be honest with you, these are the most INSANELY priced camps I've ever seen.  It's $200/week and it's for 1/2 day.  But, they look cute and they go as young as 3.

The City of Manassas Park offers an $80 Spring Break camp. I'm not sure how close that is to you all, but I hadn't found it before, so I'm putting it here :)

If you're a Sport and Health Gainesville Member, they offer both Spring Break and Summer Camp.

Golden Boot Soccer offers camps for various levels and interests at various price points, depending on the week and whether or not it's a full-day option.

Clay Cafe Studios in Chantilly offers one day to one week options, but they're also on the expensive
side.

Haymarket Sportsplex offers camps and Wee Camps for $195 a week, 9am-2pm. It's also adjacent to Jump-N-Jimmy's so your kids will get plenty of bounce time, too.

Hope this helps!! Please email me if you've got more ideas!!

Registration is now OPEN for most camps, including the Prince William Park Authority Camps, of which there are FAR too many for me to list here.  Try their website instead. If you have more ideas, please let me know and I'll add them to the list!!

1- Horses
Twin Oaks in Chantilly offers both Summer and Spring Break Camps.  They're not as expensive as I thought they'd be for horseback riding, although definietly not cheap, and they look fun! Riders do not need to have any experience.  Ages 5 and up.

Criswood Farm in Manassas (Near Harris Teeter and the Muslim Center of NVA) will be offering camps every week of the summer for ages 8 and up.

2-Traditional Camp Activity Style
Adventure Links offers both overnight and day camps out of Manassas and Centreville.  They include field trips, rock climbing, sailing, camping, caving, and more. Beginning at age 8 and going through age 18.

A little less adventurous but still traditional- Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association offers a camp for ages 6-12 with field trips, crafts, swimming and sports. Fees vary slightly for LRPRA members and non-members, but not enough that you couldn't sign up with a non-Lake Ridge friend. Both Full Day and Half Day options are available.

3- Younger Children
Gymboree (including the Gymboree in Woodbridge near BJs) will offer Bubble Camp every Friday for ages 3-5 from 9-3.  Children must be "potty independent" to register. Children who register will also be eligible to attend free open gyms on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Kids N Motion will again be offering its camp for ages 3-12.  CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE TO BE POTTY TRAINED FOR THIS CAMP!! I know I always have at least one person looking for that feature!! Both the Woodbridge and Fredericksburg campuses will also offer a spring break camp program that is now registering, as well. This camp is also great because you can register for just 1 day a week all the way up to 5.

4- Older Students Only
GW Community School is offering an INSANELY expensive but very neat looking Robotics Camp for students in High School.  It's in Springfield, but a very cool offering that a parent asked me to find.

George Mason University is offering Babysitter Training at the Freedom Center (PWC). Ages 11-15.

The Freedom Center (PWC) is offering an exercise-themed Teen Dance Party Camp for ages 8-15. Off the same link, George Mason University is offering an intensive Dance Program for ages 16-22 at the Fairfax Campus.

George Mason University offers spots in a Summer Writing Enrichment Program for rising 5th-12th graders.  You MUST APPLY FOR A SPOT IN THIS PROGRAM.  Applications are available beginning late March/early April. (Fairfax Campus)

The Potomac Arts Academy is offering Teen Guitar.

5- Academic Enrichment
6- Computers and Electronics
George Mason University offers computing for rising 3rd-8th graders who struggle with writing skills.  The program combines writing skills with computer skills. (Fairfax)

7- Science and Mathematics

Apollo Gymnastics will be offering week long camps beginning in July for ages 5-12.  Half day and full day options are available.

Challenger Sports SOCCER camp for ages 3-14 will be held at the Lake Ridge Fields the last week of June and first week of August and throughout August at the Dale City Rec Center.  Half day and full day options are available.

Karate Camp from Jason Yi's TKD College  is a full day program for ages 5 and up.  After care is available.  The program is normally $219 a week, but there is an unspecified "Early Registration Discount" if you sign up before school ends.

Swimming Camps from Swim Kids are available throughout the summer in locations all over the greater PWC area.  Camps are NOT even half day, but they are a great way to make sure that your child can be confident in the water this summer. (NEVER leave your child unattended in the water)

For other swimming options- not truly camps, but definitely a "keep you busy" option- try the local swim teams, the Amberjax, Frogs, Barracudas, QDD, and Flying Ducks
