We are so excited to welcome our newest sponsor, Daytime Playtime! From their website:

"Daytime Playtime is a place where children have fun with others, develop a joy for learning to become comfortable and secure in an academic environment. Children develop differently depending on their ages and experiences. No two kids are alike and should not be compared to each other. They are all learning in different ways and at different rates."

Daytime Playtime offers a mommy and me class, mommy's morning out, and preschool-junior kindergarten programming during the year. There is a Spanish Immersion program offered on Fridays, as well. For homeschool students- Spanish, cooking, math and science, and art are offered on a monthly basis, and similar enrichment classes are offered for after-school programs. There's also parties, monthly storytime and lots of fun!

As we're approaching summer, though, the most time-sensitive offering at Daytime Playtime is their summer camps. They have two sets of camp, one for ages 3-5 and one for ages 6 and up.  Themes for the younger set include "Little Chefs", "Marvelous Messy Art", "Camping Trip" and more. For ages 6 and up, camp themes include "Cooking with Math and Science", "Creating a Story" and "7 Wonders of the Ancient World".  You can sign your child up for 5 days (full or half), 3 days, or even do drop-in one day camp.  Outdoor fun and water play are part of every day, and the camps are focused on helping children to wonder and explore.

Natural Mom Home Day Care is seeking an energetic, responsible and patient person to provide care for 3-4 children (ages 18 months and 3 years) on occasional sick days and vacation in our State Licensed Home Day Care. You’re welcome to bring your children with you (depending on the ages). Meals for you (and your children) will be provided, you’ll have to cook easy meals (often just heating as they are prepared ahead of time) and feel comfortable changing diapers.
Toys, books, projects and a basic schedule are here to assist you, and with few exceptions the days are fun and stress free. You would need to have transportation here and back, but you would not need to transport the children. Our hours are from 7am-6pm, and all children nap together for about two hours. Background checks are needed as well as CPR and first aid certification. If you aren’t already certified, I can help you get certified.
This would be a great job for a stay at home mom who is happy staying at home, but would like the opportunity to make extra money occasionally while still staying with her child.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, I’d love to meet you!
You can contact me with a description of your experience and information about yourself at naturalmomdaycare@gmail.com,  a resume isn't needed but your philosophy on child care and a lot of information about yourself would be great!

We are so thankful for all the businesses that support what we're doing at PwcMoms!! Animated Child is one of our fantastic sponsors, and we want to share with you more about a few of the programs they offer.

1. Before/After School Care:
Animated Child is the alternative to typical Before and After School Care.  Our program allows children to explore and learn while they spend  time in our Open Exploration area. Many parents have compared it to a children's museum! We ditch the traditional teaching model and learn science, technology, engineering and math in a completely hands-on environment.  Children can feed our animals in the Nature Smarts area and construct buildings in our Spatial Smarts area. Homework help is always at the ready and our S.T.E.M. room houses multiple computers for online learning. Join our program and receive 2-FREE Weeks of tuition!
Call 703-763-0003 for enrollment information.

2. Classes in Language, Art, Social Skills, and STEM Topics
Animated Child is full service enrichment center offering classes in Spanish, French, Art, 2-D Gaming Design and P.E.E.R.S. social skills. Language classes are $200  for 1 class per week. $340 for 2 classes per week. Classes are in 8 week sessions. Enrollment is ongoing. Register any time!  Membership guarantees enrollment and great discounts.

3.  Open Play and Parents Nights Out
The Animated Child provides an integrated environment where children are encouraged to be curious and independent. Our setting is created for the inquisitive child. We aspire to develop a deep sense of self in our children.
Open Exploration Times: (Monday-Friday)
9:00am-10:30am                    Open Explorations are $9 ($7 for members)

The atmosphere is made to promote imaginative and creative problem-solving skills that generate intrinsic motivation. The Animated Child exists to bring into being an organic movement of emotionally balanced children that recognize abilities within themselves. Our innovative center is inspired by the multiple intelligences of Gardner’s theory, and we engage children in every element in order to highlight their unique way of learning. The vital element of emotional and social intelligence with a global perspective makes the Animated Child a leader in children’s education. The Animated Child recognizes the crucial value of a second language and provides a playful curriculum for complete immersion in language and culture.

Based on her own desires for natural childcare that allowed for attention, cloth diapering, natural foods including organic cooking, and affordable rates, local mom Rosemarie is opening Natural Mom Home Day Care beginning September 2nd, in the Rippon Landing Area of Woodbridge.  Here's what she has to say:

Natural Mom Home Day Care LLC opens its doors September 2nd to offer the Woodbridge/Dale City area (Rippon Landing) state licensed child care services for children 6 weeks to 6 years. “This is an opportunity for me to offer the services that mean the most to parents, like organic/natural foods, toddler yoga, baby sign language, family preferred scheduling and  complete preschool curriculum with rates that saves families over $2,000/year versus area day care centers.”, stated owner Rosemarie Groner.

After unsuccessfully searching for safe, affordable, high quality child care that offered the same natural care she provided for her new infant at home, owner Rosemarie Groner saw an opportunity to change the lives of area families. With a background in child care, she received state certification and created a child care program that offers local families an affordable, flexible, and safe alternative to area day care centers. Natural Mom Home Day Care LLC offers small group child care (3-4 children), organic/natural home cooked meals and home-made baby food at no extra cost, accepts cloth or disposable diapers, toddler yoga, baby sign language, photo sharing, preschool curriculum, and flexibility with after hours babysitting available by appointment.

“I have three assistants that can help me with sick days, vacation and appointments”, explains Groner “Which means parents can feel comfortable relying on me. I have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of area families and I take that responsibility very seriously.  A great day care provider is an extension of the family and that’s exactly what I plan to be.”

To celebrate their grand opening, Natural Mom Home Day Care LLC is giving away a gift certificate for 5 hours of free after hours babysitting by appointment. To enter, head over to their facebook page and like them. One winner will be chosen at random.

Visit naturalmomdaycare.blogspot.com, call 703-402-0362, or email Rosemarie at naturalmomdaycare@gmail.com to get more information and to request a “Parents Information Packet” with rates, menu plans, policies and procedures, and program highlights.

In celebration of her new business, Rosemarie is offering something that every parent could use- 5 hours of after-hours babysitting (a $50 value).  Tell your husband to make reservations, and go out without the kids!! Enter using the Rafflecopter below.

PwcMoms is running this contest, but not responsible for care.  Please see any waivers or agreements provided by the babysitter, as well as her state license for details. This is a sponsored post paid for by Natural Mom Home Day Care, and information was provided by their owner.

Summer Camps and Vacation Bible School in Prince William County

Looking for VBS or camp in Prince William County? Here's what I've got.  They're done by DATE, so that you can decide what weeks you need coverage.  I was going to try to color code them by half day/full day/VBS, but that got complicated and hurt my head, so I gave up, although I did turn the VBS listings blue in case that's all you're here for..  If you would like to submit your camp dates (just like these, please, I'm not taking them incomplete or not done in this format) I'll be happy to add them.

Prince William County Parks and Recreation doesn't think I'm cool enough to submit their events, ever, and since I'm tied up with this whole radiation bit this year, I didn't take the time to separate out their camp listings by week.  You can find their guide online, however, here at Prince William County Parks Summer Camps 2013.

City of Manassas Park Parks and Recreation Summer Camps 2013 are online here.  They don't think I'm cool, either.  It's okay, I'm not bitter about it ;)

Kid Care Cafe

So here's a neat idea! A new business, Kid Care Cafe, will actually bring group childcare to your home or event.  It's a flat $15 per child at the event, and I can totally see doing this for my next big game night or BBQ so that the parents can enjoy their time with grownups, but not have to worry about having their children with someone they don't know off-site.  Weddings, business parties, galas, charity events, I could see this being a really useful service!
From their website:
Instead of staying home from an event because you don't have childcare, why not bring the kids along too? We understand this tough choice that parents often make - miss out on being social with your friends OR find a sitter and go out! We want you and your friends to go out (or stay in) while we tend to the kids. We want your kids to have fun, make new friends, and be safe. We'll make sure that happens.
I haven't had a chance to meet the owner yet, but she's having a special kick-off event Saturday, September 15th from 3-5pm at the NZone in Chantilly (14550 Lee Road, Chantilly VA) with free food, games, raffles, prizes, face painting and music.  I think this is definitely one to check out if you're constantly in need of childcare! I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback if you use them, too!

As a reminder, PwcMoms.com does not endorse any childcare provider.  Parents should meet with any potential babysitters, daycare providers, preschools, etc. and use their best judgement and personal discretion before leaving their children with anyone.

Summer Camps 2012

Here's what we have so far.  This list will continue to grow.  If you'd like to add your business or organization's camp option, please email us. It's totally free to add your camp to our list!

All Summer/Multiple Weeks(Choose Weeks)
Last year I spent a ton of time making the Park Authority Camps easier to search and sort through.  This year, they've done a way better job than I ever could- check out their website where you can search, compare, etc, or pick up a "Summer Camp Guide" which is listed by location by date this year, rather than by topic like last year!! Great job Park Authority!!

Urban Evolution will be hosting camps from June 11th-September 7th.  They describe them: "So your 9-year-old likes to turn your living room into the set of Wild and Crazy Kids and observing them in the backyard is like watching a scene from Legends of the Hidden Temple? THIS is the camp for your child! The day camps serve as a safe and exciting introduction to Parkour and Freerunning.  Don's know what Parkour is, pizza brain? It's getting over, around, and through obstacles to enhance physical fitness and mental preparedness.  Your kids will also be exposed to movement-based sports like gymnastics, tricking, breakdancing, and Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts).  Think Guts on steroids.  And, at 75% off, this challenge is better than entering the Temple of Doom.

YOUTH SPORTS, Virginia Training Center ’s Summer Camp Program gives kids of all gymnastics backgrounds and ages a chance to develop new skills, make new friends and above all have loads of fun!  Gymnastics Camp is open to kids ages 5 - 15.  The kids will participate in gymnastics, jump rope, arts and crafts, swimming, putt-putt golf, movies and more. A weekly schedule will be handed out on the first day of each week of camp.  Gymnastics camp is offered weekly.  Some weeks feature a second, specialty camp, too.   half day ($140) or full day ($190)

Edgemoor Art Studio offers 8 weeks of "Art Rocks" Art camp for all ages.  Days are divided with younger children in the morning and older kids in the afternoon.  All supplies and snacks are included.

The Little Gym of Gainesville offers a full summer of programming with a different theme each week.  Classes are for ages 3-8 years old, and are priced by the day, rather than by the week, making it a good flexible option for part-time parents.

The State Park Program offers a teen training program that actually includes a $500 stipend!  Have older kids? Check it out on their website.

George Mason University's "Potomac Arts Academy" offers several options throughout the summer for ages through high school.

Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation will offer camp all summer beginning Monday June 25.  Full day is 8:30 to 4:30, and half day is 8:30 to 12:30.  Registration begins March 1st.  Camps range in price from $80 to $175 a week depending on the number of hours and whether or not you are a LRPRA member.  Contact the Recreation Dept., (703) 491-2154 for details.

Gymboree Bubble CampEvery Friday. Get the fun of camp without the daily commitment! Bubble Camp is a drop-off program for “potty independent” 3-5 year olds which offers Play, Music, Art, Sports, School Skills, parachute time, traditional games and signature Gymboree activities all in one day!  Camp is every Friday in June, July and August from 9AM-3PM. The cost is $35 and includes snack and lunch.  Call or email for weekly themes and reservations.

LRPRA Summer Camp begins Monday, June 25th.  Full Day Camp is from 8:30am-4:30pm, half day camp is 8:30am-12:30pm.  Registration begins March 1st.  Non-refundable deposit of $25/week due at registration.  703-491-2154.  Member and Non-Member rates, multi week discount, prices start at $160/$80 (member full/half day) and $175/$90 (non-member full/half day).

Swim Kids offers weeklong sessions all summer for $99 per week.  It's 5 classes per week, leaving plenty of time for other activities.

Next Level Fitness and Performance, the area's top athletic performance facility, is offering Athletic Performance Training for serious and aspiring athletes who want to become faster, stronger, and more confident athletes. Located in Haymarket, sessions are offered for collegiate athletes, high school athletes (ages 15-18), middle school athletes (ages 11-14), and young athletes (ages 7-10). Taught by professional performance trainers, athletes will improve their running technique, agility and first step quickness, gain power, flexibility and endurance, increase core and overall body strength, and develop linear and multi-directional speed. Collegiate sessions begin May 21st and end July 28th, all other sessions begin June 18 and run through August 25th. For details, call 703-754-0161 or visit our website at www.NLTraining.com. Mention this listing and get a FREE Athletic Performance Evaluation!

St. Paul UMC Preschool will be hosting camps all summer long for ages 2.5-5 on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday from 9am-12pm.
$65 per student.

Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center is having three equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) camps that focus on a broad range and combination of challenges facing pre-teens and teens. All activities are based in groundwork distinguishing these classes from our traditional therapeutic riding classes. EAP includes a vast array of treatment strategies utilizing the horse. Considerable success has been observed in the mental health realm with horse activities on the ground.Groundwork classes develop cognitive skills, sensory skills, and confidence. Cognitive sessions address the many processes of the mind, including planning, judgment, memory, orientation, concepts, attention and language.Sensory processing sessions provide activities working with the horse to improve the brain’s ability to take in, analyze and respond to information from the body’s five senses. The primary goals of these sessions are increased body awareness, sequencing and judgment skills, attention span, cause and effect, motor coordination, spatial awareness, and early learning skills.
In addition, clients improve judgment skills, social interaction, coordination, motor planning, self confidence and self-esteem, and a greater sense of independence.

School breaks can be stressful! Parents that work need coverage, holidays need preparing for, families come to visit....stress!!

Now, I'm not saying I know from experience (but I'm not saying I don't know either), but having to leave twice a day to pick up your child from a camp (even if it's half day) can provide a much needed break from the house and anyone in it that's not normally there!  Further, I promise that I won't tell anyone in your house who's not normally there that you CAN, in fact, drop your child off at art camp and come back if you'd like to tell them you have to stay.

This is not a place of judgement.

In any event, whether you need extended coverage or are just looking to indulge one of your child's passions, I hope that this list will help! If you know of a camp option that we've missed, shoot me an email or leave a comment and we'll be sure to get it added ASAP!

Hey There Mommas!!

If your house is anything like our house, you just spent winter break with between 1 and 5 sick children/husbands (well, hopefully 1 husband, but you know, we're not here to judge), while running around like a crazy woman cooking, cleaning, entertaining, and spending 4 hours in line at Toys R Us Christmas Eve because your sweet baby angel child decided that Santa was only bringing them ONE thing and it wasn't one of the 2,000 toys you and your family bought them.

Good times!!

So, perhaps you are in need of a little break.  Now, I happen to be a spoiled brat and live within 20 minutes of our fabulous Grandma who babysits pretty much every Friday night (sleepover included).  However, since she's recently gone back to school, which I am so proud of her for doing, we need alternate plans.

If you, too, would like to get a few hours of grownup quiet time, here's a little list of options :)

1) Kids In Motion has Kids Night Out EVERY SINGLE FRIDAY NIGHT!! Your child can play from 5:30-9:00pm for $25 for the first child and $15 for siblings. That includes dinner at 6:15.  Kids in Motion also offers a special New Year's Eve service that includes a sleepover.

2) Lake Ridge Park offers a drop off event for ages 4 and older.  There are only 12 spots, so reserve early!! $15/date or $50 for all four Saturdays.
Option One: Holiday House- Kids celebrate the holiday with games, activities, and crafts. 703-792-7060
*New Years, January 8th 6-9pm
*Valentine's Day, February 12 6-9pm
*St. Patrick's Day, March 12 6-9pm
*Spring Fling, April 9 6-9pm
Option Two: Bingo (Ages 4-10) based on a new theme each week, and everyone is a winner!!
*Kings & Queens, January 15, 10-1
*Celebrate the Presidents, February 19, 10-1
*Community Helpers, March 19, 10-1
*Wonders of the World, April 16, 10-1

3) Pump it Up Inflatable Playzone offers Kids Night Out on Black Friday (score!!), Valentine's Day, and the First Friday of every night.  Have a child on the spectrum? They also offer a Sensory Integration Night on the 3rd Thursday of the Month.  Prices vary, so check the link!!

4) SportRock is admittedly far away, but soooo cool!! An indoor rock climbing experience, SportRock offers a Kids' Night for ages 6-14 from 6:30-8pm.  At $20 with all equipment provided, this would be an awesome choice for a more active older child who's outgrown the moonbounces. (Can you outgrow moonbounces? I don't know, I still love them!!)

5) The Little Gym offers various "Parent Survival Nights" at their locations across Virginia.  Find the location nearest you on the link above and pick a night!!

Perhaps you have your own babysitter? Make sure they're American Red Cross Certified through the Safe Sitter Course!!

Ages 11-15 can take the Babysitter Course at the Freedom Center on February 5th or March 12th from 9am-4pm.
Anyone ages 11 and up can take Infant/Child CPR on April 9th from 9am-4pm at the same site.  Both courses are $75.

Prefer the other side of the county? Chinn Aquatic and Fitness Center offers Baby Sitter Training, too! Baby Sitter Training I for ages 11-15 is $65 and can be taken on January 22, February 26, March 19 or April 16.  Baby Sitter Training II for ages 11-15 includes infant/child CPR and can only be taken after Baby Sitter I.  It's $60 and held on March 26.
