This year we were able to head out to Supervisor Marty Nohe’s annual Coles District Tree Lighting Celebration at the Historic Lucasville School on Godwin Drive in Manassas. Lucasville School is a reconstructed one-room schoolhouse dedicated to interpreting post-Civil War education in Prince William County. We were expecting a small tree lighting, but this is actually a large celebration!
The event started with the Bennet Elementary School Choir leading the crowd in Christmas Carols, followed by the arrival of Santa Claus.
Then Santa and Supervisor Nohe (Nohe is on the left, Santa’s on the right, in the picture above) lit the tree with the help of a few lucky students. The tree is still decorated, if you want to drive by, and the ornaments were made by local Girl Scout troops.
After the lighting, there was hot chocolate (although that did run out- so make sure you snag some early on), a bonfire, and free pictures with Santa taken by a photographer inside the school. The pictures were emailed with a printing permission so that you can print out/email/whatever you want to do with your Santa pictures. I know the ones at the mall can get pretty pricey, and I thought the Santa looked great and the pictures turned out nicely!
This is my daughter and her little bestie- you might recognize her from such facebook hits as “Guitar Lessons” and “Gymnastics Class”, which they also do together!
You can find information about other events hosted by Supervisor Nohe’s office on his website.
